"My daughter, Megan, developed a “turned eye” when she was eight years old. We were very happy to learn that we could correct this through therapy, rather than surgery. We were in vision therapy for nine months, and it has really made a difference in how Megan’s eyes are functioning. Megan has always been a good student. Until we came to Family Optometry, however, we didn’t realize how hard she was wording to maintain her grades. The tests and exercises at Vision Therapy showed us just how much extra work she had been doing to keep her grades up. Vision therapy has been successful for Megan in that her eye turns less, she is able to control its movements, and her vision is improving. We believe that vision therapy was successful for several reasons. To us, it seemed that the program is well-developed, with appropriate testing to demonstrate progress. In addition, the exercises are varied and fun, so that Megan was able to maintain interest and keep up with her homework. More importantly, the therapists at Family Optometry excel at working with children. Sandy quickly established a rapport with Megan, so that Megan felt encouraged every step of the way. Dr. Eskew and Dr. Carr also worked well with her. Megan’s grades are still high, and she still strives for excellence in all of her subjects. As a parent, it is a relief to know that she can continue to earn those grades without limitations and without struggling unnecessarily to do so. In addition, Megan has new confidence in her physical appearance, and is better able to see and enjoy the world around her. We sincerely appreciate all of the efforts made by the staff and Family Optometry."

"Dear Sandy, Dr. Lewis, and the Family Optometry Staff, Two years ago we began what seemed like along journey. The good news was the sense of relief and resolve we felt when we left your offices that first time. Finally, we had some answers that made sense. Our daughter is a great kid, wonderful socially, kind and extremely intelligent, but she was struggling to finish classroom work, good grades were a struggle, and homework was awful. She was reaching a breaking point when we were steered to you. We were inundated with people who were more than ready to tell us that vision therapy wasn’t going to help, that it was very controversial, not to expect too much. But as a parent, how could I not give this a shot? Well, they were wrong. It has helped, tremendously. Shelby went from struggling with third grade work, reading at a first or second grade level, to now reading at or above her grade level. She went from not being able to complete Stanford standardized testing within the time limitations because of tracking and reading slowed her down, to this year finishing every single Stanford test within the time limits. Shelby went from working so hard for her A’s, B’s and occasional C’s with tears, headaches, and exhaustion, to making Principal’s Honor Roll with straight A’s in her last grading period prior to changing schools. Even changing schools hasn’t shaken her ability to perform the necessary daily tasks of a 5th grader and make awesome grades. Our family cannot thank you enough for providing more than just clarity of vision. “Vision” can be many things from seeing the world clearly as it should be, to having a “vision” for helping children and adults lead a happier, more confident, productive life. Last year at this time, Zack, 9, could not do many things other boys his age could do. Though he “looks normal”, he read, wrote and did math at kindergarten level. He cried often about school. He was uncoordinated with all types of ball games, and got to where he refused to pick up any sort of ball, book, or activity. He was frustrated with video games and threw them down in frustration. He avoids all types of play activities, withdrew, and found no pleasure in play or work. Since vision therapy, Zack has increased in reading, writing, and math 2 grades. He is confident as he heads out the door for school! He picks up balls, on his own, and initiates games of catch, basketball, and golf! In his play with his brother or friends, he is happier, more confident. On a recent campout, his brother reported that Zack’s shooting aim has improved. Zack now enjoys video games on his own or with others! We have tried so many tutors and programs that have not been as successful as this! He finally sits in front of a computer! I must acknowledge Sherry, his vision therapist, for being the best of 24 professionals that tested and worked with Zack over the years. She is flexible and patient, able to “read” him – not push him to tears, and yet get him to progress. We are so grateful. Thank you.
